Summer Sportsfest 2009 Opening Day

The heat is on!

SJV5 held the Opening Ceremony for the 4th Summer Sportsfest (2009) yesterday. The parade covered the SJV6 gate, mini-bridge going to SJV4, and the streets of SJV5.

The three Kagawads who responded to the invitation spoke words of wisdom to the athletes during the ceremony. They judged Team "White's" Muse, _______, to be the Best Muse.

The kids eagerly started their basketball game in the morning.

The adult males had two exciting games in the evening.

Congratulations, graduates!

Congratulations to all graduates!

Especially to the elementary students who held their graduation ceremony in SJV5 today. Brief moments of slight rain did not discourage the students, teachers, and parents as they bravely continued the graduation ceremony amidst the weather's fickleness.

We now have a new batch of upcoming high school students. We wish you luck and may you be a blessing not only to your family but also to your community.

Humps

Humps here. Humps there. Humps everywhere...

Humps are growing out of the roads these days. Especially on streets where children run out to play.

Humps are a nuisance to motorists. They make the motorists slow down and check the bottom of their vehicles to see if it will take a scratch as they go over the humps.

It may irritate the hell out of the motorists, but to pedestrians, they are a blessing. A lot of motorists, especially those riding motorbikes, zoom in and out of the streets at reckless speeds in streets with plenty of people. Some riders learned their lesson only after they hit the walls or posts. Or worse, after they bumped someone.

We are now putting up humps in all the blocks in our subdivision to slow down all vehicles and prevent mishaps.

This is an association expense that members would gladly pay for.

Monthly Dues

The majority of the General Membership approved the Php50 per member monthly dues during today's meeting. Monthly due of Php100 got three votes, and Php75 got only one vote.

The previous monthly dues was Php100 but not all the members can pay for it. Especially in these hard times. In consideration for everyone's capacity to pay, the Officers and the Board of Directors decided to let the members themselves determine what they can contribute to the association.

To make up for the decreased monthly fund, the Officers and the Board of Directors will implement measures to add to the association's fund.

Set of Officers and Board of Directors

It has been only a month since the SJV5HAI Officers’ and Board of Directors’ oath-taking ceremony was held in our basketball court.

We started an Aerobics Club for the women. In the initial survey, quite a few women showed interest in being part of this health and beauty undertaking. The first session was attended by ten (10) women. In the succeeding sessions, more than twenty (20) women are already participating. A lot of non-residents also expressed interest in joining the Aerobics Club.

We have a beautification project which started with the main gate. The rusty portion of the gate has been replaced and the gate was repainted. The gate area was also cleaned and various plants and flowers have been planted.

A guard provided by the Barangay has also started manning the gate during the day. It is not a free service but it is much less than what we have to pay if it is a regular guard from a security agency. As of now, night duty goes to whoever volunteers; and it is not regular.

We are conducting a summer sports league for the residents. We just finished finalizing the teams. The juniors, the men, and the women are all keyed up and go to practice as often as they could. A lot of onlookers, residents and non-residents, are enjoying themselves watching the players practice; be it in the morning or in the evening.

The basketball court is truly a multi-purpose court. We have our games held there: badminton, volleyball, and basketball. We have our gatherings there: Association meetings, Officers and Board of Directors meetings, prayer meetings, Christmas party, and others. We also hold the aerobics there. We have reserved the court until March 18 for night use by the local participants for the town’s upcoming town street dance competition. The dancers won second place in the competition.
